Manon was 7 years old and shared her room with her little brother Théo, who was 4. It wasn't always easy! Théo was constantly touching Manon's things, and she always found her colored pencils scattered on the floor.
— Theo! You took my markers again! shouted Manon.
"That's not true!" replied Theo, crossing his arms.
Luckily, they had Pistache, their adorable tabby cat with green eyes. Pistache often slept at the foot of Manon's bed, but sometimes he would sneak into Théo's. That caused arguments too!
One evening, Mom entered the room looking tired.
"Kids, that's enough! You need to learn to get along. Tomorrow, I want you to spend the whole day without bickering. Otherwise, no dessert for a week!"
Manon and Théo looked at each other, worried. A week without dessert? Impossible!
The next morning, they woke up determined to be good. But Pistache had disappeared!

He was usually always there when I woke up, purring to ask for his kibble.
"Where is Pistache?" asked Theo, worried.
Manon searched under the beds, in the closet, behind the curtains. Nothing.
"We have to find him!" said Manon. "But without arguing, otherwise Mom will scold us."
For the first time, they decided to work together. Théo searched the living room while Manon inspected the kitchen. They exchanged news without shouting at each other.
"Not in the living room!" shouted Theo.
"Not in the kitchen either!" replied Manon.
They went up to the attic, a somewhat scary and dusty place. Theo took his older sister's hand.
"I'm a little scared," he murmured.
"Don't worry, I'm here," said Manon, squeezing his hand.
They moved slowly between the old crates and forgotten toys. Suddenly, they heard a very faint "meow".
— Pistachio! they shouted together.
Behind a large cardboard box, they discovered their cat... who wasn't alone! Snuggled against its warm belly, four tiny kittens were sleeping peacefully. They were so small, with their eyes still closed.

— Oh! Babies! whispered Theo, amazed.
— Pistache is a mom! Manon breathed, her eyes shining.
The two children remained there, sitting side by side, admiring the little family. They had never seen anything so cute.
"Manon," said Théo softly, "I'm sorry I took your markers."
"It's okay," Manon replied, smiling. "And I'm sorry I yelled at you."
They went downstairs to get Mom, who was very surprised to discover the kittens. She set up a large, comfortable box in a corner of the children's room, with soft blankets.
That evening, Manon and Théo decided that Pistache would sleep between their two beds, so that she would not be too close to either of them.

"Can we take care of the kittens together?" asked Theo.
— Yes! And we'll choose their names together too, promised Manon.
In the weeks that followed, the two children learned to get along better. They still bickered sometimes, which is normal between siblings, but much less than before. They had realized that playing together was much more fun than arguing.
One morning, as the kittens finally opened their little eyes, Manon and Théo sat down in front of the box to give them names./>
"That one, all white, we could call it Feather!" suggested Theo.
— Oh yes! And that one, the very light one, will be Vanilla, said Manon.
"The little redhead is Caramel!" exclaimed Theo.
— And the last one, the dark brown one, is Noisette! added Manon.
Plume, Vanille, Noisette and Caramel... The four kittens finally had their names! Manon and Théo were so proud to have chosen them together.
And when Mom served them a huge slice of chocolate cake, they shared it equally, under the tender gaze of Pistachio and her four little ones: Feather, Vanilla, Hazelnut and Caramel.
